{"id":21133,"date":"2021-04-16T20:00:21","date_gmt":"2021-04-16T18:00:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cantonuovo.org\/con-amore-e-pazienza-il-signore-ha-corretto-la-mia-vita\/"},"modified":"2026-06-03T08:29:13","modified_gmt":"2026-06-03T06:29:13","slug":"con-amore-e-pazienza-il-signore-ha-corretto-la-mia-vita","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cantonuovo.org\/en\/con-amore-e-pazienza-il-signore-ha-corretto-la-mia-vita\/","title":{"rendered":"With love and patience, the Lord has set my life right"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">I grew up in a Catholic family, which also included several so-called \u2018consecrated\u2019 people. <\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">Until the age of 30, I was immersed in Catholic culture, participating in parish life with various duties and roles. Meanwhile, certain questions were growing ever stronger within me; they remained unanswered, yet I felt I had to accept them as they were: simply questions.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In 1998, I had a first, very brief experience with a different way of praying, of a predominantly charismatic nature, but I rejected it. For me, nothing existed apart from the Catholic tradition. I felt I had already reached the end of my journey with the Lord. I had made myself the champion of a God moulded to my own desires and rituals, with whom I had never had a personal and intimate relationship. <b>But God was patient.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In 2004, I began a romantic relationship with a girl, and through her the doors to a new relationship with Jesus were reopened to me. Although she was already familiar with Cantonuovo, our relationship with the Lord was predominantly charismatic in nature, and for me it was anything but easy. I followed teachings different from those of Catholicism SOLELY to be with her. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In 2006 we got married and in October 2007 something happened that, until just a few weeks earlier, had been absolutely unthinkable to me: during a sermon I heard at Cantonuovo on the Kingdom of Heaven, something changed radically within me and in the way I thought about the Lord; my relationship with Him changed. I felt a wall crumbling, a wall made of straw-like certainties, self-convictions or imposed beliefs that collapsed like the walls of Jericho. For the first time, the Gospel no longer appeared to me as a dogmatic book, but as a book of life. This new conviction brings about something even more unimaginable in my life: praise, which I had always regarded as an unacceptable form of prayer to God, begins to take on a different meaning for me. I had always considered praise to be meaningless or something confined to a book of ritual prayers that one \u2018must\u2019 recite in a burst of mysticism or introspection at the end of the day. <\/span><span class=\"s2\"><b>But God was patient with me.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">After the preaching of the Kingdom and after accepting the Lord as my new \u2018Friend\u2019, I was once again certain that all the pieces of the jigsaw were in the right place. In the meantime, my children were born and, through marriage, I left the family home to which more moments of sadness and family division were linked than of happiness. But from that moment on, I once again experienced the recurrence of my great weakness: <b>passivity<\/b>, which, for the umpteenth time, led me to the conviction and the act of pride in thinking that everything had been sorted out. I had a job, a wife, children, I lived in a wonderful house and\u2026 when needed, I even had people praying for me.  <b>However, I had not considered that Jesus calls us to change our lives,<\/b><\/span><b> <\/b><span class=\"s1\"><b> not to improve  our lifestyle or simply to change religion or church<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">A few years ago, following a serious crisis in our relationship, our marriage broke down and, within two weeks, my work also came to an abrupt halt: after a few months I found myself alone, back in the family home I had left years earlier, without one of my parents\u2014who had died in the meantime after a very long illness\u2014and, the thing that caused me the greatest pain, without the joy of waking up every morning under the same roof with the children. In fact, what I was left with was a part-time life: part-time with the children, with whom I spent 2\u20133 days a week, and part-time with a job that paid me half my previous salary, which was barely enough for me. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">I had hit rock bottom: the time had therefore come for the Lord to correct me, to mould me and to start afresh. This happened, but NOT quickly, NOT without pain, NOT without causing suffering, NOT without mistakes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Throughout this time, Jesus has shown the patient love of a father who wants to nurture and give his all to his son\u2014all his time, all his wisdom and all his resources. The period of correction, which has lasted for years and is not yet over, began with a phrase from the Gospel that echoed in my heart every day<\/span> <span class=\"s1\"><i>\u201cWell done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a little, I will set you over much.\u201d<\/i> It produced an important result: the battle waged against passivity and the arrogance of thinking I had reached the finish line, that I was settled. God has placed extraordinary friends along my path, the friends of Cantonuovo who \u2013 to quote their own words \u2013 have always cheered me on, ready to listen to me, patient in waiting for me and happy to welcome me back at every opportunity. I have always felt their prayers upon me, indeed upon me and upon us. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Yes, us, because after almost exactly six years, that blessed time of correction has borne one of its fruits. My relationship with my wife has received a fresh start from the Lord, a new impetus, and whilst out in the world I continued<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\"> <\/span>to see only division, legal battles, betrayals and injustices, in my own life things were moving in a completely opposite direction. <b>Only with the Lord can these true miracles of reconciliation take place<\/b>!<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">By remaining faithful to His word and His promises, by remaining faithful to the little I had left, in time my work too received a new impetus and once again I can wake up every day under the same roof with the children.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>It seems like a contradiction, but I thank the Lord for the time of correction He granted me; I thank the Lord for making me face the difficulties head-on. Perhaps that time of correction was the greatest gift I have received from Jesus.<\/b> I have learnt to trust in Him, to love His justice, to recognise Him as the one Lord of my life, and to praise Him for the wonders\u2014even the less visible ones\u2014that He has worked and will continue to work in me. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Indeed, praise: over time, even the veil that prevented my heart from praising Him with all its being has been torn away.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>How beautiful it is, Lord, to leap and sing hymns to your name!<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I grew up in a Catholic family, which also included several so-called \u2018consecrated\u2019 people.
